How to use your Squatmate®
- Attach a 9V PP3 battery to each connector of the 2 top section tubes (be CAREFUL not to pull the wires too much)
- Push the battery into the end of the tube and insert endcap
- Insert the top section tubes into the middle and base sections (battery downwards)
- Adjust the height of each top section, using the pins and middle sections (Remember to adjust each side to the same height!)
- Decide where you want to squat. One way is to squat down, without any bar/weight, and draw chalk marks on the floor, to mark your foot position.
- Place each unit at the desired distance apart, to the left and right of your squat position, where your bottom will break the infrared beam. Remember to position the units so there is no danger of tripping over them, especially when carrying weight. We recommend a distance of AT LEAST 3 FEET between units (The units will work well even 6 feet apart)
- Align the units so that the holes at the top of the units point directly towards each other.
- Switch on the units. If there is no sound then the units are correctly aligned (if there are no other problems).
- Wave your hand between the 2 units. When you break the beam the buzzer should sound. (If not, try tapping the units. Sometimes the buzzer sticks).
- Now perform a test squat without weight, exactly as you would usually;
- does the buzzer sound when you reach the desired squat position?
- is the squat depth correct (for you)? Remember, the buzzer should sound when your rear breaks the beam, at the right height. If the units are too far forward (towards your toes), then your legs may break the beam. If too far back, you may not break the beam at all! If you are of average height (like me) then the beam should be positioned about 6 inches behind your heels (NOT the units!).
- fine tune the positioning of the units until everything's set up right.
- Once all this is set up you should be ready to begin squatting!
Key Safety Points
- Remember to position the units far enough from your feet to eliminate any risk of tripping over the units. Especially while carrying weight
- ALWAYS test the device by performing a squat without weight, just before you begin your squat session. Be sure to squat in the correct location (use chalk marks if needed, to align your feet). Does the buzzer sound at the right time? Is the depth correct?
- When squatting; remember to CONTROL the lift. There may be a very remote chance of the batteries going flat during the set (however unlikely). If the squat feels too deep and you suspect that the buzzer should have sounded, then return the weight to the rack. Then retest the unit to see if there is a fault
